Venture capital firm OK hopes to help locals succeed

NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) – Oklahoma is home to many innovations – but funding is needed to turn ideas into reality. This is where a venture capital firm in Norman says it comes in.

Every day on the University of Oklahoma campus – and across the state – research and ideas are born.

“Boyd Street Ventures’ true mission is to help launch those innovations that are ripe to help solve the world’s problems and launch them into the world,” said James Spann, OU graduate and Founder and CEO. of Boyd Street Ventures.

It is the first and only venture capital firm founded solely to fund and advise start-ups created in OU and the State of Oklahoma.

“It’s really a pleasure for me to be on campus and to be able to see all the great innovations that we have and to be able to help launch them, not only by providing capital, but also by providing operational support to companies. that we bring into the BSV network and working with the university to do that,” Spann said.

Located on Campus Corner – Boyd Street Ventures is at the heart of Norman – and is supported by university leadership.

“It’s an exciting time,” OU President Joseph Harroz said. “Now we see that we are in an investable university. We are a place where we have no affiliation with this company, with Boyd Street Ventures. They come here because they like the university and they see opportunities.

Boyd Street Ventures was founded in 2021.

It hosted the grand opening of its newly renovated headquarters on Friday. Spann is an ex-Marine and former business executive.
